Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area

The Baviaanskloof wilderness area is not that easy to reach. The road is difficult, no more than a track in places that are washed away due to flooding in the past.

You have to cross numerous drifts on the way. The passes are steep and narrow, but once you are there, it is all worth it. Plan to stay a couple of days.

Be sure to be self sufficient. Barring a long drop, there are no other facilities available. Bring your own firewood, gas bottles, lights and whatever else you need to make yourself comfortable.

We also took along a solar shower which worked wonderfully. Consider it, unless you are happy with a daily swim in the river. The white sandy beaches along the river are wide and the ideal place to relax in the sun. More often than not you will be the only people around. Enjoy...

	Look who came to visit! Bambi! This little bushbuck ewe was quite at home grazing among the trees bordering our campsite.
	Reflections in the water...can't you just feel how peaceful it is here?
	Bring a canoe along, you can follow the river for miles...
	Beautiful white beaches stretch along the river. And the best part is, you have it all to yourself! There's my wife in the distance.
	Tranquility, solitude, Rooihoek is just the place to rejuvenate your soul...
	The campsites are shady. Here we are relaxing after the heat of the day. We have just crossed over Combrinck's pass and were grateful just to sit and contemplate our journey through the Baviaanskloof.
	Luxury in the wilderness. An offroad trailor provides all the comforts of home. With a rig like this you do not need modern ablutions. You are completely self sufficient.
	Reflections on the water in a river in paradise...
	Don't you just want to wade across to the sandbank on the other side and laze the day away? What more romantic spot could you want to spend the day with your loved one?

	This picture was taken from our campsite. There are 4 campsites at Rooihoek, all situated among the trees on the bank above the river.
	On the road again. We took this picture of Rooihoek on the morning we left. God willing, I would like to return here one day and spend at least a week.
