Baviaanskloof wilderness area

The Baviaanskloof Rooihoek wilderness area is not that easy to reach. The road is difficult, no more than a track in places that are washed away due to flooding in the past.

You have to cross numerous drifts on the way. The passes are steep and narrow, but once you are there, it is all worth it. Plan to stay a couple of days.

Be sure to be self sufficient. Barring a long drop, there are no other facilities available. Bring your own firewood, gas bottles, lights and whatever else you need to make yourself comfortable.

We also took along a solar shower which worked wonderfully. Consider it, unless you are happy with a daily swim in the river.

The white sandy beaches along the river are wide and the ideal place to relax in the sun. More often than not you will be the only people around. Enjoy...

Where to stay?

There are a number of places where you can camp or find accommodation in  the kloof.

If you would like to search for accommodation in the area I can recommend  that you do so through Safarinow . They  have a huge  selection of South African Safari lodges on their books and their service is excellent.
