The entrance to the Duiwekloof Wilderness camp in the Baviaanskloof. Certainly looks like some prehistoric dinosaur! |
The campsite is neat with borders of white stones all along the edges of the stands and paths. The stands and paths are swept and raked. You can see that the owners really care for this place. It was a pleasure to camp here. |
Our campsite... |
Neat pathways lead to all the amenities. |
The bush shower is spotlessly clean and surrounded by shade cloth for privacy. Hot water is provided by a gas heater. |
And here is the throne! Once again spotlessly clean... |
The scullery... |
A short walk from the campsite takes you to some spectacular scenery where the river cuts through the mountainside. |
This type of scene is what I will always remember of this wonderful wilderness area...This whole valley, although it is really out of the way, is certainly a must to visit if you are looking for a South African safari with a difference! |
This why one should not just drive through the kloof in a day. You need to stop, camp, explore on foot to find spots like these. You need to personally experience the wildness of this remote valley. |
End of this trip. On the road to Willowmore.... |
You can hear the silence, experience the absolute peace of the setting. If you are looking for a place to unwind, this is it...
Duiwekloof is a small campsite which offers basic amenities.
It is however the neatest, cleanest wilderness campsite that I have seen.
Although there is no electricity, hot water is provided by means of a gas powered geyser so there are always ample hot water available for the bush shower. All of the ablutions are spotlessly clean.
Great venue, great ambiance...this wilderness camping site is highly recommended! You can read our review here.
Below are some more galleries of photos that I have taken during our trip.
A very good resource for more information is the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism website.
There are a number of places where you can camp or find accommodation in the kloof.
If you would like to search for accommodation in the area I can recommend that you do so through Safarinow . They have a huge selection of South African Safari lodges on their books and their service is excellent.
